little rippers

Surfing is something the kids have always wanted to do and learning in the warm waters of Bali seemed like the perfect opportunity. The Uncles (of Buddy and Girl) are dedicated surfers and this summer the kids are hoping to be rippin' it up in Tofino and Renfrew with them. We have had lots of fun talking about Uncle Johny and Andrew and how they would love to be here watching them learn to surf. Believe it or not we have some nice surfing in Canada, although a full wetsuit is required. Funnily enough, no helmet is though. And after months and months with safety precautions being non-existent almost everywhere in the world it was refreshing to have to wear helmets to learn to surf (kids and adults!). We woke up to the pouring rain pounding the roof of our wooden joglo and it was just another reminder of home. Thankfully it let up and the fog lessened for the morning lesson with their enthusiastic instructors.

Once they hit the surf it wasn't long before they were catching waves. I loved watching the instructors faces when they were up and away...
And when they were up and falling away.
I was so proud of how they got back up and paddled out again every time.
After over an hour of shredding, they finished with a bunch of dropping in on each other and general horsing around.
It was a great homeschooling day. That's another one for the P.E. component.
After the lesson the equipment was ours for the day, so what did they want to do? Hit the waves of course. Get ready westcoast waves, these kids are stoked!

  1. Wow--amaaaazing! Ella will be so jealous when I show her the photos in the morning! She announced a few weeks ago that she wants to be a surfer when she grows up (we've never tried...would love to learn)! Hahaa! Congrats to the kids! Wish we could see you again before we leave...but alas, we're outta here on Sunday, and you'll still be gone. Boo hoo!!

    1. Love it! We heard about Gracie's visit to see Rikst at her office and that she kept asking for Johny! Can't wait to see you all (especially Grace - the kids are dying to see her and are always asking for stories about her). Hugs and love!
