back to the jungle

After a much anticipated visit from Buddy and Girl's grandparents on one of Thailand's busiest islands, we are now drowning our sorrows with a good dose of hiking and exploring Khao Sok National Park. We have been lucky to have had visits with friends and family during our trip and it always takes a few days to regroup. With an epic day traveling to our guesthouse at the gates of the park, we were able to talk about homesickness and all of our friends and family at home. Today we woke up ready to hit the trail. It is extremely humid and hot here, possibly one of the hottest places we have been. But who really knows, it is all starting to blur. Add in zero wind and the constant buzzing of what has to be millions of cicadas and that is the scene of our hike.

how we got our sri lankan groove

Rainy Kandy wasn't really doing it for us. Nothing against the city, we had our moments and the people were lovely and friendly, but we hadn't found our happy place here yet (which is scary when you have three more weeks to go). So we decided to find it hopefully in the highest hills. But we have one very motion-sick child (and it isn't Girl). The train seemed our best option over the bus or hired driver, as you can move about easier, visit the toilet, breathe fresh air and it is very inexpensive. Still I wasn't looking forward to the impending waves of sore tummy, knowing the train ride was going to be loooooooong. The train tracks are old and you feel every bump, sometimes bumping backwards, sometimes going very slowly, or idling in wait for another train to pass. So as my moaning child clung to me I watched the foggy trees and cleared my mind.

99 days until departure!

A friend emailed me today to tell me that we leave in 99 days! Clearly she is checking my blog, so I need to get more diligent on the posting. Right now it feels like we are wading through a jungle. So much to do, sort out, get rid of etc in order to be free of all our worldly possessions. Look, I get that these are "problems" I've created for myself and I'm not complaining. I'm happy and excited!
So on my top priority list right now is to rent out our house - and this little nature walk is right out our door. Who wouldn't want to live in this Canadian jungle?!
