little rippers

Surfing is something the kids have always wanted to do and learning in the warm waters of Bali seemed like the perfect opportunity. The Uncles (of Buddy and Girl) are dedicated surfers and this summer the kids are hoping to be rippin' it up in Tofino and Renfrew with them. We have had lots of fun talking about Uncle Johny and Andrew and how they would love to be here watching them learn to surf. Believe it or not we have some nice surfing in Canada, although a full wetsuit is required. Funnily enough, no helmet is though. And after months and months with safety precautions being non-existent almost everywhere in the world it was refreshing to have to wear helmets to learn to surf (kids and adults!). We woke up to the pouring rain pounding the roof of our wooden joglo and it was just another reminder of home. Thankfully it let up and the fog lessened for the morning lesson with their enthusiastic instructors.

green bali

We arrived in Bali at midnight and were whisked to our guesthouse in the dark, waking up our first morning amid the chaos/serenity that is Ubud. High-end organic vegan restaurants and yoga studios line the main roads, which are seething with more scooters than we've seen yet - it's like watching the currents and back-eddies in a river.
