glimmer lantern glimmer

In mid-November our school in Canada celebrates Martinmas with evening lantern walks in each of our children's classes. I have to say that I really missed that tradition this year. But in late November we stumbled upon Chiang Mai's lantern festival. Soon we were spotting lanterns on all of our walks throughout the city - lanterns hanging, being carried, floating down the river and lifting up into the sky. It felt like a little connection to home.

One evening we joined a large Buddhist lantern festival and sent up our own lanterns as individual families, together with friends and then watched as thousands of strangers sent theirs off too.
glimmer, lantern, glimmer...
little stars a-shimmer
over meadow, moor and dale
flitter flutter elfin veil.
glimmer, lantern, glimmer...
little stars a-shimmer.
over rock and stock and stone,
wander tripping little gnome.

    1. It was a little scarey when some lanterns wouldn't make it and come crashing to the ground. The crowd was so thick my neighbour's sweat was running down my arm. We kept saying how dangerous it was because we were literally stuck together. But the crowd was nudging one another peacefully:-)
