cricket

Cricket is the most popular sport in Sri Lanka. We have seen kids in fields and streets playing it, like football is in many other countries. But we had no idea how to play. Luckily that all ended today when we learned a tiny bit about the game. Our host is originally from the UK, a huge cricket fan and was happy to "school us". First up - how to hold the bat to protect the wicket.

Then how to throw, some practice bats and a few rules like not hitting the ball into the neighbour's yard and when to run and we were off!
We had some nice hits, runs and wickets knocked down...
There were a few swings and misses...
A mandatory tea break...
And ice cream treats from kindly fans - this is the popular faluda and vanilla flavour.  Hmmm... another new taste for us.
Everyone was seriously sweating after the match, so there was nothing left to do but cool off.

  1. Looks like a lovely place and I remember cricket to be lots of fun. You'll have to teach me.
